After initially releasing this course a lot of students have requested a little more info on breeding African nightcrawlers.

Everything in this course applies to ANC as well, ideal temperatures are similar but can be a couple of degrees warmer.

Cocoon production and hatching rates are similar to red worms.

The best density for reproduction are 50 adults/ sq ft or 500 adults /sq m

A very profitable way to use and breed ANC is to use 5 gallon buckets with airflow holes around the top sides. If there is enough air exchange then lids can be used and buckets stacked.

Fill buckets 2/3 full of semi fresh horse manure, shredded is best
Place 50 adult worms in each bucket
After 21 days remove adult worms
Place adults in a fresh bucket
To the old bedding add about a cup of worm chow or chicken mash on top.
label and set aside the cocoon rich bedding for 8 to 10 weeks
At the end of 8 to 10 weeks the bucket should be full of worms just before adulthood and the bedding will be almost completely composted.
These worms can be used to set new breeder buckets or be sold.
Finished casting can be used or screened, bagged and sold.
